CREATIVITY TOOLS
WHAT IS CREATIVITY TOOLS ?
A child playing with balloons suddenly burst one. Instead of crying or complaining, she simply tied up the balloon into a knot and made a ring from it. She used her creativity to change an unpleasant situation to her advantage. Why is it that children can still be creative and innovative, while as adults we only look for set solutions to problems instead of thinking out of the box? Perhaps it is the years of conditioning and conformation to rules that smother our creativity tools. Creativity is the mother of all new ideas and innovation. It is that bright spark that leads to the development of revolutionary techniques and path-breaking inventions. Breakthroughs in science and technology owe their origins to the creative genius of some people. Just think what would have happened had not Microsoft founder Bill Gates create the popular Windows software? Or what we would have done without the invention of the smartphone or Bluetooth devices? Obviously, these devices have originated from the creative genius of some people.
ADVANTAGE

TOONDOO
REFLECTION FOR PIXTON AND TOONDOO
Pixton isn’t the type of comic book software that allows you to create a graphic novel from scratch. You can insert images from your computer, but the program itself doesn’t have any original drawing functionality. Premade templates and characters are its bread and butter. This format, however, makes it easy to create a humorous comic strip in minutes to share with your friends and family. But if you’re looking to create and publish a full-fledged graphic novel, this isn’t the right comic book software for you.
Toondoo is illustrations have a number of possible benefits to learning. Some concepts, especially in the sciences, can be difficult for students understand textually, but are better communicated in pictures. Illustrations can be used to get students attention and increase their emotional interest in a topic. Other illustrations can be used to summarize or rephrase information and help students build their framework of understanding.
There are even more benefits to be gained by having students create their own cartoons in class. By creating cartoons, students:
- Interpret a concept from verbal/textual form (provided by teacher) to visual form (created in ToonDoo)
- Organize science concept to fit a limited-panel representation
- Create their own new, unique representation of an idea
- Appreciate the difficult scientists encounter when trying to communicate their ideas to others
- Demonstrate computer skills
As you explore ToonDoo and this guide, you will see more and more ways that you can use ToonDoo cartoons in your teaching and for your students.
